| Thanks to support from our friends all
across the county a permanent TNR
ordinance was approved by the
McHenry County Board on Tuesday,
January 17, 2006. Responding to your
signatures on petitions, telephone calls,
correspondence, letters to the newspaper
and personal remarks at meetings,
the Board overwhelmingly supported a
long-term commitment to solving the
feral cat issue in McHenry County via
TNR.
TNR is the only proven, successful method of reducing feral populations. Colony members are spayed/neutered, so the breeding cycle ends. Because of the ordinance, caring individuals can continue to help these animals by providing them with shelter, food and water while ensuring their population decreases by aggressive spay/neuter practices. Animal Outreach wants to extend a special thank you to all the colony managers who are providing care to ferals across the county* and to our Feral Friends program co-managers - Sonja Treptau and Angel Albers - for their vision, leadership and dedication. *(Note: Because of privacy concerns we are not sharing the names of our 200 plus feral colony managers, but we are indebted to them for doing such important, lifesaving work. Thank you!) Are you or someone you know feeding outdoor cats?
